The buildings we clean in Královo Pole

The Brno-Královo Pole district is made up of the Královo Pole, Ponava and Sadová cadastral areas and a small western part of Černá Pole. More than 28,000 people live here. Královo Pole itself is distinctly urban, with a regular, compact street grid whose main axes are Palackého třída and Purkyňova street.

Královo Pole became a town in 1905, and new streets then grew up along the newly laid-out Slovanské náměstí and, in the 1920s and 1930s, west of it around Skácelova street. Leading architects such as Bohuslav Fuchs and Josef Gočár built here before the war. Buildings of several storeys prevail, and most of them date from the first half of the 20th century. For cleaning we mainly distinguish three types:

• Multi-storey buildings from the first half of the 20th century: along Palackého třída and Purkyňova and around Slovanské náměstí. Most of the work is on the staircase, which runs up several floors, and on the landings.
• Prefab blocks on the 1968–1975 estate: these usually have lifts and more flats per entrance, so cleaning covers the lift and longer corridors as well as the stairwell.
• Newer apartment buildings: for example the complex on Kociánka street, approved in the mid-1990s. If such a building has a garage, that is a chapter of its own.

Here we clean apartment buildings for owners’ associations (SVJ). Garage cleaning is agreed separately, because it uses different equipment and a different rhythm: we wash the garage floor with a scrubber-dryer at longer intervals, while the stairwells and corridors are cleaned regularly as set out in the contract.

The district also includes Ponava, with the Královo Pole shopping centre, and Sadová, where extensive woods with Údolí Zaječího potoka, a stream valley, spread out to the north-east. The Medlánecké kopce hills with the Palackého vrch forest park reach in from the north-west. In the east stand the Královopolská engineering works and the main building of the Technical Museum in Brno.
